Shin Young-sook still overwhelmed the audience with a high pitch of fire. Kai, no stranger to the play, has done his part. The musical “Rebecca” (Directed by Robert Johansson) opened its grand performance at the Chungmu Art Center in Sindang-dong, Seoul on Nov 16th. Shin Young-sook has been starring in “Rebecca” since her Korean premiere in 2013 until this year. Kai is newly joined this time.
Returning to his 5th season this year since 2017, “Rebecca” deals with the conflict between I, who fell in love with her husband Maxim de Winter, who lost his wife Rebecca in a mysterious accident, and Mrs. Danvers, who is wary of such him. Based on Daphne du Maurier’s novel “Rebecca” it was inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s “Rebecca” (1940). Since its debut at the Reimund Theater in Vienna, Austria, in 2006, the show has been translated into 12 countries and 10 languages around the world, with the Korean performance being so perfected that the original artists would recognize it as “the best.”

When Na (I) and Maxim fall in love, they release the mood with the melody and lyrics that make them feel refreshed and warm, and Mrs. Danvers appear, and after opening the second act, they make their hearts beat with a song that is sour and disturbing. The composition and production of the stage was also centered around places where big events took place, such as the Monte Carlo Hotel in France, the Manderley mansion, and the beachfront, allowing people to immerse themselves in their works without feeling tired. This is why it consistently draws praise from audiences as “best” even though it meets audiences with the same story every year. Rebecca has held four concerts in Seoul and three provincial tours in 15 cities until 2017, setting a record of 517 episodes in South Korea alone and 670,000 cumulative attendance. The 5th season also sold out on the first day.
After all the songs of the work that surrounds the ears and the great production demonstrated on the stage that captured the eyes of the spectators, as well as the passionate performance of the actors.
