Musical ‘Jekyll and Hyde’

Jekyll and Hyde is a 1990 musical loosely based on the 1886 novella ‘Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ by Robert Louis Stevenson, which first premiered in Korea in 2005. The company has recorded an average of 95% of paid seats every season, creating a “Jekyll & Hyde craze” for hot ticket reservations. Winning a total of 11 trophies at various award ceremonies in Korea proved the potential of the best steady-seller musical.

The musical is set in 1888 London, Henry Jekyll is to mary Emma, a competent doctor, scientist and his beloved. For a man who seems to lack nothing, one concern does arise – his father suffers from mental illness. Jekyll begins his treatment research, a cure that can separate good and evil in a patient’s mind. After many failures, he decides this research is a task only he can solve and undergoes the clinical trials himself. As he wished, he succeeds in separating good and evil, but Edward Hyde, a second character full of evil, takes control of Jekyll.

A brand new creative musical from Start Production (시작프로덕션) company had its premiere on the 5th this month. The story revolves around the first organized firefighter group in the Joseon era. In the 13th year of Kind Sejo, a great fire breaks out in the city of Hanyang; people are horrified by the uncontrollable flames. Among this chaos, the firefighter group receives a mysterious letter from an arsonist.

In this unfortunate era where fate was determined by wealth, a glimpse of hope remains as historical crime drama unfolds!

Musical Islander is having its Korean debut this year as a performance planned by the Wooran Foundation!

Its journey began as a workshop in Scotland in 2017 and a year later achieved a full Scottish tour. The work beautifully depicts moments of communication and reconciliation between friends, family and neighbours through mystical mythologies, legends and traditional Scottish music. The musical is set on Kinan, a dying island that people have stopped visiting, whose fate now lies on a vote: to abandon it or not.

It is a two-person acapella where the actors take on the appearance of main characters Aran and Ailee, as well as numerous other characters surrounding them, making it an even more enchanting unique musical.

In the year 1862 one of the world’s greatest painters was born. As he grew, he became one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Art Nouveau (Vienna Secession) movement, opposed the Austrian Academy of Fine Arts, and has been remembered as the most loved, as well as most criticized artist to this day.

The musical tells a heartbreaking pathetic love story of the infamous artist Gustav Klimt who challenged new things head-on despite the flow of time, and a man Gustav Klimt, who lived as if he had everything but could not confirm a love of the single person that mattered the most.
