Venue: LG art center

Runtime: 2021.09.07 – 2021.02.27

Musical Hadestown is for the first time ever performed in South Korea! This legendary musical had its first premiere in 2006, became Broadway sensation in 2019 and finally achieved a Korean debut in 2021.

This work is a modern reinterpretation of the myth about tragic lovers Orpheus and Eurydice, one of the most popular ‘dark’ musicals currently on Broadway. After the initial premiere date had to be postponed, is it finally ready to be showcased in its full glory before the Korean audience. This modern adaptation depicts Orpheus as a poor waiter in a restaurant who falls in love with Eurydice, a wandering woman who is no stranger to the cold. Orpheus, unable to provide for both of them as he is working on his song to bring the spring back, forces Eurydice to make a deal with Hades and seek shelter in Hadestown. The main narrator, Hermes, and three Fates retell this timeless myth while incorporating unique musical elements such as blues or jazz, which are not often seen in theatres.

Venue: Dream Art Center Hall 1

Runtime: 2021.09.08 – 2021.11.28

A rather unusual musical It Rains Cats and Dogs premiered last year and is making its first comeback in 2021. It is a story of sympathy, a story of seeing things from different perspectives, yet being able to find common ground and empathize with each other’s pain. The particularly interesting thing is that the only roles in the musical are a dobermann Raptor and a black cat Pluto, two animal characters that took 3 years to develop and are both portrayed by human actors. Pluto, who hates humans slowly learns to accept Raptor’s overwhelming puppy presence, as well as understand why and how the human mind works.

A premiere of a brand new musical is nearing! A creative musical from the production of MJ Starfish, that as expected does not lack behind its brother works and once again gives audience gender-free characters with its double and triple castings.

In the late 17th century the first heir to the monarchy, Franchez, struggles against his political enemies and assassins sent to kill him. He can’t relax even for a second and wishes to become a monk. Remy, a vampire living in the woods near the castle one day encounters Franchez, who is instantly fascinated by the beautiful stranger living in nature. After Franchez enters the monastery, another stranger, Joy, appears in front of Remy. This musical is sometimes seen as comedy, sometimes as a romance, however, one thing is for certain and that is it will provide a unique outlook on vampires.

Trace U is set in a club called “DeBai” (드바이) in Hongdae, where singer Koo BonHa and club manager Lee WooBin work together. BonHa, who falls in love with a woman that comes to the club every day, is unable to confess his feelings and dances around her. After mustering up courage he sends her a note to meet at 4 am when the club closes, to relay his feelings. But no matter how long he waits, the woman does not show up, not the day set on the note or any other day afterwards. BonHa is unable to forget and while waiting for her he keeps messing up his shows, which infuriates WooBin. But what if the meeting did take place and the woman was never seen again after?

Venue: Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri Grand Concert Hall

Runtime: 2021.08.17 – 2021.08.26 (original); November (updated)

Wonderticket is a creative musical designed as “DMZ Peace Tourism” content and was supposed to be performed in the world’s only demilitarized zone as a way to turn ‘divided and ‘tense’ into a place of reconciliation. However, due to the ongoing pandemic, it had to be performed online with hopes to perform offline in 2021. Up until the last minute audience believed this wish will come true. Unfortunately, even the 2021 ticketing had to be refunded and a notice was posted regarding a planned release of a recorded performance in the upcoming months. Wonderticket is set deep into the DMZ forest where a rusty train that has not been running for 70 years is reborn as a train of wind, of hope. The moment one gets on the train, a fantastic journey that crosses boundaries between reality and imagination begins!
