The legendary musical Kinky Boots by Cj ENM is once again back with a new season this month! Its debut was in Chicago in 2012, shortly followed by the Korean debut in 2014 and four successful seasons. Based on a British movie of the same name (2005), it tells the story of Charlie, who inherited a shoe factory on the verge of bankruptcy, and Lola, a beautiful and cheerful man practising a completely different lifestyle. Like a muse, Lola brings new ideas, new challenges and most importantly, 80cm long bright red boots. Will the ‘Kinky Boots Line’ be a success at the Milano Fashion show or only fan the fire to ruin?

Venue: Dream Art Center Building 1

Runtime: 2022.07.12 – 2022-09.12

A unique creative musical from the production of MJ Starfish, this year on its second season. Once again, this musical is a pioneer at experimenting, this time introducing one actor cast in two main roles. Of course, double, triple and quadruple gender-free casting is not missing. The story is set in the late 17th century, the first heir to the monarchy, Franchez, struggles against his political enemies and assassins sent to kill him. He can’t relax even for a second and wishes to become a monk. Remy, a vampire living in the woods near the castle one day encounters Franchez, who is instantly fascinated by the beautiful stranger living in nature. After Franchez enters the monastery, another stranger, Joy, appears in front of Remy. This musical is sometimes seen as comedy, sometimes as a romance, however, one thing is for certain, it will provide a unique outlook on vampires.

Our beloved basketball musical is once again back with its 6th season. Previously managed by IM Culture and Ansan Culture Foundation, this year’s baton belongs to Shownote. This musical includes basketball games in the choreography and even had professional basketball trainers help with the production.
Suhyeon, who is not good at anything and is always alone, has no one in the world who can understand him. He resolves to just end it all and heads for the dark school roof. Three students startle him, they’re wearing the same school uniform but the colour of their nameplate is strange… For 15 years, the three ghosts have been wandering around the school trying to reach at least one student that can hear them. Suhyeon grants them a wish to possess his body since it is of no use to him anyway, and they head straight for the run-down soon-to-be-abolished basketball club.

Praised for its in-depth text, emotional music and delicate directing, this musical was developed through a showcase in 2020 and the Yes24 stage in 2021.
Sylvia Plath, the Pulitzer Prize-winning genius poet, attempted three suicide attempts throughout her life and succeeded at the age of 31. Only after her death did she posthumously receive recognition for her honest and passionate writing. According to a critic and observer of her turbulent life, they were attempts for a new life, not death. This musical features a fictional character Victoria to express the hope of finding that new life, not death.

Venue: Chungmu Art Center Medium Theater

Runtime: 2022.07.12 – 2022.10.09

Thrill me is a musical adaptation of the real-life 1924 Leopold-Leob incident, USA, on its It tells the report of two upper-class young adults dipping into various crimes together, finishing off with a murder, which eventually leads to their arrest. In the case of this musical, the crime is arguably not the main focus, the sexual tension, relationship dynamics and ideological conviction seem to take the wheel. Though the original names do not appear, Nathan is addressed as “나” (Me) and Richard as “그” (He or That).

Musical ‘Sidereus’

뮤지컬 ‘시데레우스’

Venue: Plus Theater

Runtime: 2022.07.26 – 2022.10.16

A creative musical by Rang Co. is back with its third season after first readings in 2017 and premiere in 2019. “Sidereus” is a term taken from the title of a book called Sidereus Nuncius (1610) by Galileo Galilei. The story begins in 1598, with Kepler’s letter to Galileo, which contains his belief the Earth actually revolves around the Sun, not the other way around. Galileo, a mathematician and university professor in Italy, is enraged by this theory written down in the book Mysterium Cosmographicum. He rejects this theory at once but, just to prove the young Kepler wrong, he conducts his own research. Slowly, he starts to realize this absurd controversial idea might actually prove to be correct. In all this, Galileo’s daughter Maria represents the uncertainty and confusion of the time, that a fact everyone believed to be true might not be set in stone after all.
